People have been leaving their jobs in massive numbers. More than 8 million Black Americans are now part of the “Great Resignation” - a wave of employees upending the status quo and searching for something better.

Why were so many of us leaving?

Black employees are tired of their work environments. While some in our community don’t have the luxury of up and quitting their current jobs, many of us have had enough.

Most Black workers are employed in the food and health sectors. Coincidentally, the two fields are losing the most people. These high-demand, low-paying jobs are burning Black workers out and causing them to quit.

But there’s another surprising reason.

It isn’t always about money! Black workers also called it quits from toxic work environments. A survey found 53% of workers who left their jobs in the last two years did so for LESS money. People in our community often deal with microaggressions, promotion gaps, and barriers to advancement.

Whether an employee chooses to stay or leave their respective jobs during this great resignation, one thing is clear - workers are calling the shots. Now more than ever, employees can demand better for THEMSELVES. We love to see it!
