Whether you’ve decided college is worth it or not, it doesn’t always have to be a financial burden. Who knew gaming could give you a full ride scholarship? These underutilized sports scholarships are definitely worth checking out.
#1: Video gaming
Turning your hobby into a career just became a possibility! There are video game scholarships for both competitive and casual players. This is one of the world’s most popular, fastest growing “sports.” But less-common outdoor sports are still offering great scholarships, too.
#2: Golf
Golfing offers thousands of scholarships every year and it's a favorite pastime for many. But, even at historically Black colleges, there aren't a lot of golfers. Though it's a competitive sport, it's still underutilized – and could be a great asset for our people.
#3: Bowling
Bowlers are getting sports scholarships all over the country, and you don’t actually have to be a great bowler to get one either! The selection process is more based on good academic standing and volunteering.
Financing college can be stressful, but if we think outside the box there are ways to make it happen. The above sports – as well as archery, surfing, and others – can be the way in. Our innovation is truly part of our resilience. We have to get creative to solve problems!
