“Robots” are gaining popularity in the workforce. Whether its self-checkout kiosks, solo-operated factory machines or scannable QR codes, some workers are worried the technology could be here to replace them. And they may be right.
During the pandemic, robots acted as a way to avoid spreading COVID-19. Since companies began replacing hard workers with machines, it’s actually saved them a ton of money – at the expense of lower-income people and their families.
Businesses like grocery stores getting rid of cashiers, and restaurants using scannable codes instead of waiters, replaces the need for a lot of workers. But so many people depend on these jobs.
As technology replaces more work, jobs become harder to find, especially for lower-income people. Companies only care about maximizing their profits and not the people that are being left behind.
This use of technology is forcing people out of work with little to no options of how they’ll take care of themselves or their families. Corporations are saving a ton of money while low-income people are left wondering how they’ll make ends meet.
