Insurance companies have adjusted their sales strategies in the wake of the health crisis caused by the global COVID-19 pandemic. They’re losing money by denying profitable life insurance policies, for example, because of how much is still unknown about how COVID-19 will affect us.

Yet they’re some of the key advertisers to TV networks that are spreading harmful misinformation that’s leading the public astray! But why?

A Media Matters for America report revealed how top advertisers on conservative news shows fund “highly misleading pandemic coverage,” and in doing so create a mess they’ll largely be responsible for cleaning up later!

The method, according to Gizmodo, first began with climate change denial.

Climate change won’t hit all communities equally. Environmental justice advocates say that Blacker, poorer communities are more likely to deal with climate change-related deadly natural disasters and water and air pollution, which affects life expectancy and insurance eligibility.

Historically-racist actuary science has painted Black people and property owners as not worth the risk for insurance companies. It appears that racism may be more important to them than making money.

Ultimately, accountability is long overdue - not just from the sensationalized news reports spreading lies that harm, but from the companies footing the bill even when it is contrary to the entire world’s best interests!
