Amazon started off selling books, and since then, the e-commerce platform has grown to sell a plethora of products. However, automobiles have not been part of their offerings, at least until now.
The company announced this month that it will allow auto dealers to sell cars on its website starting in 2024. Hyundai is the first company that says it will sell cars on the platform. It’s not known yet if other car manufacturers will follow.
This announcement may make it easier for consumers to shop because they will be able to browse and purchase cars in their local areas, have the car delivered, or pick it up at their local dealership.
“They’ve [Amazon] led the way in delivering customer convenience, and now they’re going to help us take our customer experience to the next level,” says Mike Sullivan, President of multiple LA-area Hyundai dealerships. “Amazon also brings massive reach and marketing power to connect to more customers. We can’t wait to get started.”
While cars being sold on Amazon give consumers another option to search for cars, it remains to be seen if there will be moderate deals or discounts involved, especially with Amazon Prime members who receive occasional discounts on consumer goods.
