#1: Become a fan of closing blinds
Try keeping ceiling fans off in rooms that you are not using and close the blinds to block the sun from heating the home.
#2: Try new ways to cook
The summertime is perfect for oven cooking alternatives like grilling outside or air fryers. Trying different ways to cook can make substantial cuts to your electricity bill because your stove isn’t making extra heat.
#3: Seek Assistance
If you are struggling to pay your bill, assistance funds such as the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program can help. Each state has its own requirements for this but it can help take the heat off your pockets.
#4: Level Off
Ask your provider about “level” billing, where you can make an agreement to be charged a flat monthly rate, then you can handle any differences in payments owed one time a year.
Rising temperatures will be a continuous issue for many of us the next few months. But if with just a little bit of tweaking, we can keep cool - even when the bill comes.
