Black women bear the brunt of racism and sexism, so living in spaces where they can feel safe, find work, and build wealth is crucial.
An expert panel of professional Black women helped MoneyGeek determine these places as the four best cities for our women based on income, cost of crime, homeownership and poverty levels.
#1: Southfield, Michigan
On average, Black women in Southfield earn $52,601 while 89% live above the poverty level. Many Black women in Southfield are also homeowners. Plus, Detroit has a wealth of Black history and culture and is only twenty minutes away.
#2: New Rochelle, New York
About two hours outside of NYC is a thriving suburb, New Rochelle, where Black women live at over 80% above the poverty level and earn $58,563 on average.
#3: Missouri City, Texas
Nearly all, 98%, of our women thriving in Missouri City live above the poverty level. Plus, Black women's home ownership is considerably higher here than in other Texas cities.
#4: Alexandria, Virginia
Located near Chocolate City, Washington, D.C., Black women in Alexandria make over $55,000 and live 92% above the poverty level. There are many job opportunities in the area, from the government to nonprofits.
These cities are just a few of the places where Black women face less income disparities and have more potential to grow financially. They may be worth a try.
