2021 is expected to include a very hot summer. That means wildfires, everyone running their air conditioning, and other issues might cause power outages!
Whether you live in a house or an apartment, here are some great tips to surviving summer blackouts.
#1: Prepare
Make sure that you pack an emergency bag well in advance! When you pack important items like portable chargers and backup batteries, flashlights and candles, board games or other electricity-free entertainment, a radio for local updates, and non-perishable foods, you’re all set for those dreaded dark hours.
#2: Cash
While we depend on debit and credit cards for most of our transactions these days, during a power outage, these machines might not be working. So make sure to have some emergency cash handy in case you need to go to the store or evacuate your home.
#3 Unplug – Literally.
Unplug your devices and appliances when not using them, and definitely during a blackout, so you can protect your electronics from power surges. But keep one cheap lamp plugged in so you’ll know exactly when the power is restored.
While we prepare for a highly anticipated summer, make sure you and your loved ones have made staying safe a number one priority!
