Word circulating the nation's capital is that Republicans will try to pass a bill to abolish the IRS. This may sound amazing. However, this change could cripple the Black community. How so?

The notion of abolishing the IRS is not new. It's been floating around since the early 2000s. They plan to replace income tax with a flat sales tax rate. However there’s a catch.

The average Black family earns the least amount of money in this country. The median salary for the average Black American is around $48,000. If a 23% flat tax rate is implemented on all sales, the average Black earner would be left with barely anything left to cover other expenses.

Just above 19% of Black Americans currently live below the poverty line. A 23% flat tax rate would leave many of us destitute. Republican lawmakers want us to think this is the best way. However, it ensures that the ultra-wealthy still don't pull their weight while we're expected to foot the bill or work ourselves to death trying.
