Renting has become cheaper than buying! But before you sign that lease, renting in these cities could be a better option for you. These are the best places for Black renters.
#1: Virginia Beach, VA.
Rent is affordable here – the average one bedroom apartment costs $1,316 and the median Black household income is over $65,000. With one of the highest Black employment rates and one of the lowest Black poverty rates, finding work and housing here won’t be hard.
#2: Charlotte, North Carolina
As one of the fastest developing cities, rent is still relatively affordable at an average one bedroom price of $1,321. Charlotte has one of the highest Black employment rates, and about 4% of the city’s businesses are Black-owned.
#3: Washington D.C.
With the price of an average one bedroom dropping to $2,078 a month and the median Black household income at $69,246, Washington D.C. is a great place to live. Once known as a mecca for Black folks, this chocolate city is almost 50% Black and almost 30% of the businesses are Black-owned.
#4: Durham, North Carolina
This Southern city, with a 39% Black population and an average one bedroom monthly price of $1,231, was named one of the “top places Black Americans thrive.”
