Thinking of booking a flight? Many Americans may be hesitant these days, as the average price of a round-trip ticket is up 40% from the start of 2022. These high prices are forcing some Americans to stay home altogether.

But there are some ways to still save some money on airline tickets.

For now, with fares so high, it may be best to look ahead, plan, and buy tickets now for the fall or winter, when they should look significantly better. For right now, the best deals are actually on international flights! Now may be the time to travel outside the country.

Then there are the numerous fees airlines charge. Everything from carry-on baggage to early boarding can cost extra.

Fortunately, flyers can choose what extras they want – look out for airlines like Southwest that include extras like checked bags, or choose a “basic” airline ticket if you don’t need them.

Buying tickets in person at the airport could also help people save. Budget airlines like Allegiant, Spirit, and Frontier will waive online electronic ticket fees if a ticket is bought in person – saving some over $100 off a ticket.

It’s possible to travel this year without breaking the bank. Choosing different airlines and knowing exactly what's included in a ticket can help anyone travel and save!
