Of all the businesses owned and operated in the U.S. 40% are owned by women. Even fewer are owned by Black women.
The well-known tax preparation company, H&R Block has launched a new program designed to help these businesses thrive. The first-of-its-kind Fund Her Future program aims to help women-owned businesses grow and strengthen their communities.
The company will award $100,000 in grants to businesses owned by women. Five grants will be provided. Four women-led businesses will receive $12,500 each, and one grand prize winner will receive $50,000. Applications are being accepted until May 26. Winners will be notified at the end of June.
Businesses owned by Black women receive less than 1% of all venture capital funding each year. A grant of this kind could significantly and positively impact the growth of Black women-led businesses, and their communities.
Through this program, H&R Block may be helping to level the playing field for women entrepreneurs and fostering a more diverse and vibrant entrepreneurial landscape.
