“Shh! Be QUIET,” whispered John T. Ward. Nervous as hell himself, he warned the scared souls hiding in his wagon – they were coming.

Heavy breathing from the back of the buggy was now replaced by loud neighs and dusty hooves being acquainted with gravel outside. They were coming – and getting caught meant death.

Fear raced through Ward’s mind during every journey – but he wasn’t free until they all were. Little did Ward know, his two horses and a carriage would take him much further than he ever imagined.

From transporting enslaved Africans to the North to becoming the oldest Black-owned business in America, E. E. Ward Moving & Storage has blossomed into a multi-million dollar company. And it all started as a stop on the Underground Railroad.

At 140 years old, this company has transformed many times over. From supply shipper to moving corporation, it has dedicated itself to supporting communities and the importance of charity work

By sponsoring local organizations, this company is able to invest in the safety of disenfranchised children, while also being a staple business in Ohio and Charlotte, North Carolina.

E.E. Ward Moving & Storage has prided itself on investing into Black communities for its entire existence. Its story shows that teamwork and investing in your community benefits everyone in the long run!
