Every morning, Janay White kissed her kids, and headed off to work. She was busting her behind working two jobs, trying to make ends meet for her family. White knew the fear of living paycheck to paycheck.
Predatory lenders frequently target Black youth because of our lack of access to other financial means.
White sought a $500 loan when she was 18.
That loan was the beginning of White’s credit downfall.
White worked as a social worker in Jacksonville, Florida, by day and ventured to her night-time gig as a revenue auditor to stay afloat.
It was her night job that would completely change her perspective and life.
Determined to change her situation, White used what she learned about finances from her job to begin repairing her credit. Now, she uses the knowledge she gained to build her wealth and help others fix their financial situations!
White is not only the CEO of eight companies, but she’s also a trustee member of the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars.
White understood one thing about the credit and lending system: their numbers frequently tell us we aren’t enough, but the only numbers that count are the ones we use our success to help beat the discrimination inherent in the system.
