Social Security Is Increasing – But So Are Living Costs

Social Security checks are getting their biggest increase since the 1980s. This is huge for everyone that relies on Social Security – but it also reveals some problems as well.

Older and disabled people are going to be getting more money starting in 2022. But more money won't solve everything. This is going to put a bandaid on a big issue that’s been getting worse for decades.

The checks are getting a 5.9% increase – but the cost of living is also going up. It's great these people will get more money but payments aren’t increasing at the same rate as prices! So it’s a help – but doesn't make a huge difference.

Things are always going to continue to get more expensive. To keep up, we all need more money – whether that’s from higher wages or continually increasing Social Security payments.

Our economic system has failed everyone – but specifically lower-income, disabled and older people have been struggling for years. This is a long-overdue increase, but a better option would be for payments to be explicitly tied to the cost of living!
