The Atlanta Dream WNBA team is in the spotlight for their courageous standoff against co-owner Kelly Loeffler. What has them so fired up?
Well, the players have strong opinions against racism and police brutality, and made moves to inform the public of their positions during game day protests.
Definitely an admirable use of one’s platform as a professional athlete. And you’d think their owner would back them up! But no. Not Loeffler.
Instead of being an ally, she did everything in her power to oppose the display of Black Lives Matter paraphernalia during games. Fed up with Kelly’s opposition, her players decided not only would they happily endorse her state Senate race opponent, Rev. Raphael Warnock, but are now hoping to attract a new owner altogether!
And one politically outspoken athlete is throwing his hat in the ring.
LeBron James tweeted “Think I’m gone put together an ownership group for the The Dream. Whose in? #BlackVotesMatter.” This is a bold move, considering how few Black majority owners there are in pro sports to begin with.
Might LeBron get a stake in the Atlanta Dream? His track record of smart business acumen and political activism makes him an excellent candidate for the position, and certainly the type of sympathetic owner these courageous ballers deserve.
