Amazon and Target recently announced plans to hire thousands of workers in preparation for the holiday season. Amazon said it will hire 250,000 full- and part-time workers this fall season, while Target separately announced plans to hire 100,000 new roles.
Amazon, which opened dozens of new fulfillment centers and delivery sites this year, will be mainly hiring for its operations network. The mega-giant also said it will invest over $1 billion, its largest ever annual investment, to raise the average pay for warehouse and transportation workers from $19 to over $20.50 per hour.
Meanwhile Target, which currently employs over 400,000 people, is hiring a slew of seasonal workers to support in-store and supply chain operations. Retail stores like Macys also announced mass hiring plans for the holidays.
Those hiring projections are based on expected increases in demands for goods and services. Even the U.S. Postal Service is looking to hire thousands of people for the holidays as it expects to see an increase in delivery during the season.
