Walmart is one of the many major companies that has dropped its DEI policies, and boycott organizers have responded. On April 7, organizers declared a seven-day nationwide boycott.
John Schwarz, founder of the People’s Union, a grassroots movement that has become increasingly popular, is one of the faces of these nationwide protests. He wants corporations like Walmart to pay their “fair share of taxes” and demands that they adopt policies of “real equality.”
Walmart released a statement stating: "As one of the largest corporate taxpayers in the country, not only do we pay our fair share, we are an economic force multiplier strengthening communities nationwide through job creation, supplier growth, and over $1.7 billion in cash and in-kind donations last year, equal to 8 percent of our profit before tax, supporting local charities and causes such as disaster response, hunger relief, workforce development, and conservation.”
Companies like Target and Nestle are also facing boycotts. Rev. Al Sharpton recently warned that he and the National Action Network will organize a PepsiCo boycott if the company doesn't restore its DEI policies.
If Walmart doesn’t meet the demands of the boycott organizers, they say they will call for further “economic resistance” actions.
